The Po Valley

The Po Valley has a very special atmosphere, especially in autumn when the ever present mist and slow moving water gives a sensation of timeless calm.

I worked for some years near the Po and so I know the stretch that runs through Reggio Emilia quite well. It’s also one of my favourite areas to photograph.
Luzzara, Reggio Emilia is much the same as it was when I first went there 20 years ago.

The Po at Suzzara in the province of Mantova was a new discovery which I hope to explore again.

After the sun goes down it is best not to hang around as one risks being eaten alive by the particularly aggressive mosquitoes that are to be found here.  Mosquito screens at the windows  are standard issue for all houses in the “Bassa”.
