Appennines Snow

I wanted to see Lago Pranda near Passo Cerreto (RE) in the snow. I was not prepared for the quantity of snow that I found there.  Anything off the beaten track meant wading through a meter of snow, so I arrived at the lake in a rather soggy state.

Walking on the lake was not to bad as there was just a thin layer of snow over the ice.

I expected the lake to be a bit more spectacular than it was.

Winter at Last

Winter has finally arrived here in Reggio Emilia, with our first snow this year.I managed to get up into the mid Apennines to enjoy the snow.

Castello di Carpineti, Carpineti, RE

I ended up at  Castello di Carpineti dating from the time of Matilda of Canossa, perched on a crest  high above the Secchia Valley. From here the view across the Apennines is spectacular. This castle is the most interesting fortification to visit in the province of Reggio Emilia

The bare trees contrasting with the snow turn the landscape into an abstract vision.
